Bend, Don't Break!

Winter has relaxed its grip
and Jane's daffodils
are staging a jailbreak,
pushing their little green heads up
looking around at the snow,
ready to go for more
if opportunity beckons.
And that is how I want to be,
always pushing toward light
no matter how dark it may be.
As a child, I memorized the lines,
'Out of the night that covers me,
black as the pit from pole to pole, '
and they feed me hope rich as bread.
Perhaps it is why I stay up most nights-
because there is light, and I can.

I tell myself light conquers darkness
all through the night, and in the morning it does.
I need, however, to learn to love the darkness
for the rest it gives and the opportunities it affords
for healing, of sunburn, among other things.
I would be like the flowers, dancing in the wind,
alternating between light and dark
like a trapeze artist or a monkey,
swinging from one to the other.
Winter, summer, hot, cold, flying high
or lying low, always my face turned
toward the light.

Nicole's Note: So there you have it guys, an insight on how to face things in life. Go after your dreams and face your demons! Stand up for what you believe in and NEVER give up!
